EVACUATION DAY, THE MUSICAL!
Some of our readers may already know that the Perkins School kids (and parents and teachers) have published a book called Why Do We Celebrate Evacuation Day? It tells the story of George Washington's first victory against the British during the Revolutionary War. Even more exciting, this victory took place right behind our school. Our book was published in 2007 and is in its third edition. If you don't believe it, go look on Amazon.com, but make sure to come back here to read the news in this post.
We are bringing Evacuation Day back to life--and adding music! Evacuation Day, The Musical is now under production. Rehearsals have already started.
Kids are learning the songs. In fact, here is a picture where Principal Brawer is teaching them one of them...
Did you ever hear of a victory with no blood?
Did you think it could happen, did you ever think it really would?
Don't you know that it happened right here!
1776 was the year!
Let's all give a rousing cheer: E-VA-CU-A-TION DAY!
Ms. Lynch, our new music teacher is working with local pastor and thespian Burns Stanfield on the script and more of the songs.
Here we're learning some of the arm movements to one. That's part of the reason the photo is so blurry!
Kids are also trying to learn some of the dialogue, the lines of the play.
Of course, not all of them have been written yet. Creativity takes time. We'll keep reporting on our progress.
We don't have that much time, though. Our first performance is on March 15!
