Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to announce that The Michael J. Perkins Elementary School will participate in
Extended Learning Time for school year 2015-2016!
Extended Learning Time schools will have 40 additional
minutes added to the school day. By
studying schools throughout the US that had significantly higher achievement
than schools in the same district, the National Center for Time and Learning
determined that expanding the school day is critical in providing a
high-quality, rigorous education. An extended day means more time for
individualized attention, more time to offer challenging enrichment programs,
and more time to expose children to worlds outside of their community. Extended
days also give teachers the time they need to assess student data, to plan
their lessons, and to work together to ensure the success of all students.
Extended Learning Time in Boston Public Schools will play a key part in
preparing the children of Boston for success in college, career, and beyond.
The Michael J. Perkins
Elementary School will receive extra support throughout
the planning process to ensure successful implementation of a schedule that
meets the individual needs of the students, teachers, and families that make up
your unique school community. Should you have any questions or concerns, please
reach out to 617-635-8601. We look forward to working with you on the continued
success of students at The Michael J.
Perkins Elementary School
Sincerely,
