In yesterday's post, we saw young kids looking at their future, getting a glimpse of what it's like to go to school, be in kindergarten.
Think of where they are now, and where they will be a year from now. If they are in Ms. Smith's class, they will be writing Morning Messages. They will work together to report on something that they have learned. Some will contribute ideas. Some will come up to the newsprint to write a few letters of the message. Some will be able to contribute a whole word. Or, two. Maybe even a sentence!
They might learn that jellyfish don't have brains or hearts, as Ms. Smith's kids learned this year. They might hear about the bravery of Harriet Tubman. They might know that Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. They will be thinking about first grade.
What a difference a year makes.
