Ms. Murray's Grade 2 Engineers Rock 2014 BPS Robotics Olympics!!!

The Michael J. Perkins' 2nd Grade Robotics Team took away two medals in the 2014 Boston Public Schools' Robotics Olympics on Saturday, June 7th at Wentworth Institute.  Ms. Murray, MJP Second Grade Teacher, trained her students to maneuver through an obstacle course across major landmarks throughout the City Of Boston.  These second graders learned valuable skills in problem solving, engineering, and technology.

MJP Student Principals for A Day 2014


On June 5, 2014, Principal Martin declared seven students, Student Principal for a Day. These Student Principals for a Day had an opportunity to shadow Mr. Martin in his day-to-day duties; observe teaching and learning; interview Mr. Billy, our School Custodian, Ms. Correa-Gonzalez, our Family & Community Outreach Coordinator, and Ms. Thomas, our School Secretary; problem-solved on a minor student discipline issue, order school supplies for next school year; and make decisions on Field Day. This was a very momentus event in the history of Michael J. Perkins. Stay tuned for our next MJP Student Principal for a Day in Fall 2015.

Excellence in School Wellness Award !!!

At the 7th Annual Boston Public Schools' Wellness Summit, The Michael J. Perkins School was awarded with the BPS Innovative Efforts toward a Healthy School Environment Award. Mary Balaconis, MJP Physical Education Teacher, presented a workshop at the summit where she shared our comprehensive health education program. Some of the features of Ms. Balaconis' presentation were on our walking club, community rowing, MJP Yoga, "MyPlate" placemats, community gardening, and more.
